Lakers fans heavily booed LeBron James and Russell Westbrook on Sunday night, and the two stars weren’t happy about it.

In an era of player empowerment, James and Westbrook felt it was well within their right to talk back to booing LA fans, especially those they believe took it too far.

In a fan video, James and Westbrook were caught chirping back at frustrated Lakers fans. While fans are allowed to be upset when the moment allows it, LA surely knows they aren’t playing well. Booing the preseason title favorites while down double-digits against the Pelicans probably isn’t helping matters.

The LeBron back and forth is the most telling. Despite scoring more than 30 points once again, James could do little to stop a Pelicans onslaught. The Lakers are in danger of falling out of the play-in tournament should this level of inadequate performance continue.

Lakers: LeBron James, Russell Westbrook caught jawing with fans

Westbrook is used to getting booed, especially this year. His performance has been lacking since arriving in Los Angeles, though we’re not sure what exactly Rob Pelinka expected. The star guard was brought in to add another ball-handler to the Lakers’ midst, and perhaps lead Los Angeles’ bench unit when James comes off the floor. He…has not provided that stability.

“Nah,” he said. “Take it home? For what? S—. Take it home? I got three beautiful kids at my house. Why would I take it home? If they boo, they can take their ass home. I ain’t worried about that. It doesn’t bother me none. I can only answer if I take them home: No. But as for our team, I don’t think it’s something we got to deal with. And kind of move forward.”

The Lakers have lost two games in a row and are 3-7 in their last 10 games.
