Not only did Devonte’ Graham’s long buzzer-beater against the Thunder give the Pelicans a win over OKC, it also set an NBA record.

Considering that the New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder entered their clash on Wednesday night with two of the NBA‘s worst records, there weren’t high expectations for the matchup. However, the two cellar-dwellers in the Western Conference delivered a truly unbelievable sequence to end the game.

With the Thunder down three points in the waning seconds at home, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander pulled up from deep and sunk a highly improbable 3-point attempt to tie the game at 110 with just over a second left on the clock.

That, however, was enough for a three-quarter-court heave from Pelicans guard Devonte’ Graham. And even though the crowd and the broadcast team as well didn’t expect it to fall, it somehow did to give New Orleans the 113-110 win in the most unlikely fashion.

Devonte’ Graham beats Thunder, sets NBA record with buzzer-beater

How unlikely was it that Graham would hit that shot?

The play-by-play for the game listed the shot as being from 61 feet away. That number alone makes it impressive as a game-winning heave — but it’s also the longest buzzer-beater in NBA history according to Basketball-Reference (h/t Reddit).

Previously, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf’s 55-footer for the Nuggets in the 1992-93 season was the longest recorded buzzer-beater in league history, meaning Graham’s make on Wednesday night beat the previous mark by a full six feet.

Sure, it might not stack up next to Steph Curry’s 3-point record — but you can bet that none of Curry’s 2,797 made 3’s came from 60+ feet out.
