Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Millsap appears to be on his way out of Brooklyn in the hopes of finding a team where he can have a “greater contribution.”

Paul Millsap has only been with the Nets since September, but new reports suggest that the organization is already trying to find a better place for the veteran forward.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Nets are looking for, as it was politely put, a new team where Millsap can offer a “greater contribution” to the roster. When Millsap has seen the court this season, the 36-year-old veteran is averaging 3.4 points and 3.7 rebounds over 27 games. It’s the worst averages the four-time NBA All-Star has seen in his 16-year career.

Brooklyn Nets are looking for a way out for Paul Millsap, but who will take him on?

Although Millsap is seeing the lowest numbers of his career, the veteran power forward was once incredibly productive, averaging 14 points a game for seven straight seasons. And his veteran presence remains valuable, even if it’s just for depth. The Nets would likely trade him away into the Western Conference, joining amenable situations on the Dallas Mavericks, the Minnesota Timberwolves, or the Los Angeles Lakers. All of these teams could use depth at power forward, and it likely wouldn’t take much to get Millsap out of Brooklyn.

The Nets are in a good situation and a roster stacked with veterans, which is why it doesn’t make sense to let Millsap languish when the Nets could build depth in an area of need instead. A trade to a playoff contender works out for Millsap and the Nets, and in the coming weeks, one of the decade’s best will finally be able to contribute in a new role.
